When at a community event for Apex’s PRWTF, The Catalyst Project team was introduced to NAME, who has done extensive public speaking work relating to prioritizing mental health, giving talks at various schools and community centers on behalf of NAMI.

At a mental health workshop, hosted by Apex’s PRWTF, the Catalyst Project team met with Pooja who gave a speech during the event, sharing personal experiences that led her to take mental wellbeing as much a priority as she does today. Speaking with her afterwards, we are moved by her story and admire her pioneering mental health awareness events and stigma-reduction initiatives in the South-Asian American community.

After an initial virtual meeting, our team at the Catalyst Project met with Sue again at the first workshop hosted by the Peak Resilience and Wellbeing Task Force. Inspired by her provided talk regarding the importance of recognizing mental health, we discussed more on negative mental health stigma and battling it.

Our team at the Catalyst Project virtually met with Shane Reese, Apex Town Council Member, and interviewed him on his perspective regarding community leadership. His commitment to serving the Apex community and encouraging civic engagement reflects many of the same values that the Catalyst Project strives to promote among students.
