So the next question is, "Get involved in what?" The obvious choices are Peace groups or environmental organizations at the local level, such as the following in Eugene, Oregon, USA: o Oregon Natural Resources Council o Many Rivers Group o Sierra Club Eugene o Audubon Society o Beyond War o Amnesty International o Witness for Peace o Peaceworks o The Greens o The Eugene Commission on the Rights of the Disabled o The Eugene Commission on the Rights of Minorities o The Eugene Commission on the Rights of Women, o The Eugene Peace Organism, etc. etc.. These are groups that have taken specific action in the community and are included here to offer a partial list of the kinds of groups that concerned people are actively engaged in. See a more comprehensive list in appendix -H. Make a list of similar groups in your own community. That will help inspire you and also help you to understand who in your community cares enough about the future to work toward a peaceful world. How can your involvement in Peace groups, city planning meetings, environmental organizations, preschool curriculum's, local radio programming, city council meetings, church committees, and local elections campaigns lead to World Peace? One dedicated person can have an effect on the direction of a group, an effect that can change the actions of these groups and guide them toward Peace as a goal. They are all part of the whole system. A system of many interlocking pieces. At first glance they may seem separate, but as you look more closely, the opposite is true. They are interconnected and can have a real and lasting effect on the future of your local community. When one community works for Peace, it influences others to do the same thing. When enough communities work together for Peace, a whole country will begin to do so. Look at the recent changes in the U.S.S.R. and Eastern Block Countries as one example. Before you know it, many countries will begin working together, changing the world mind-set of competition, poverty, hate, greed, and war to one of cooperation, abundance, love, sharing, and Peace.
